Our Causes

The on going war in Tigray…

For months, a conflict in Ethiopia between the government in Addis Ababa and Tigray region has cost thousands of lives and displaced millions.  Nearly 1.7 million people have been forced to flee their homes in Tigray; thousands of families are crammed in small rooms in schools or churches. Women and girls face an additional risk in such conditions. Shelters have no partitions and lack gender segregation which puts them at risk of sexual and gender-based violence. Hundreds of women have reported horrific accounts of rape and gang rape since the start of the conflict. Medics have reported removing nails, rocks and pieces of plastic from inside the bodies of rape victims, while the United Nations said women and girls in the mountainous region’s remote areas are being subjected to sexual violence “with a level of cruelty beyond comprehension”. In addition , 2.3 million children in Tigray remain cut off from humanitarian assistance amid continuing violence since the beginning of November, 2020. Therefore, Hope for children of Tigray  (HCT) will provide food, clothing, and safe house services or shelter to displaced families and facilitate family re-unions.
